Director of Communications

Organization: California-Nevada Conference of The United Methodist Church

Location: West Sacramento, CA

Description: The Director of Communications is responsible for the following:

  • Leading the California-Nevada Conference of The United Methodist Church in communicating its Gospel message of healing, hope and transformation to the communities it is called to serve and to the world.
  • Strengthen and undergird the vital connections among its local churches, districts, retreat and camp ministries, campus ministries, organizations, and its programmatic, administrative and financial agencies through effective, transparent and pro-active communications.
  • Grow the missional connection between the conference and the jurisdictions, central conferences and general agencies of The UMC through a variety of communications portals.
  • Develop a web of communications with ecumenical and interfaith partners in ministry that will strengthen the conference’s relationships with these entities as well as its common witness efforts.
  • Provide timely communications to the bishop, conference leaders and congregations about church and world issues that affect the work of the conference in the church and in the world.
  • Assist the bishop or others she/he designates in crisis communication when necessary.

Description: As Director of Communications, a successful candidate will:

  • Communications. Be excited everyday to tell our stories through online and print mediums in a way that successfully engages a wide audience—students, faculty, donors, and more.
  • Marketing. Develop a strategy for online and print engagement that significantly increases user acquisition and engagement with our content, website, social media, podcast, etc.
  • Management. Identify and build a lean team of service providers, junior staff, and contractors, to build the technology, media components, and day-to-day content creation needed to execute the strategy.
  • Team-Oriented. Support all areas of the organization (e.g., development, labs, forums, etc.), working to discover and tell stories from various programs to various audiences.

Communications Associate - Temporary Position (entry-level)

Organization: Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism

Location: Washington, DC

Description: The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism is the Washington, D.C. office of the Union for Reform Judaism and the Central Conference of American Rabbis and represents the Reform Jewish Movement to Congress and to the White House; develops extensive legislative and programmatic social action materials for the Reform Movement; and trains nearly 2,000 Jewish adults, youth, rabbinic and lay leaders each year in social justice work.

Duties include:

  • Assisting with email content, editing, formatting, and dissemination
  • Helping write, edit and maintain content for RAC's website, publications, and social media
  • Database and list management
  • Tracking departmental budget and calendar
  • Coordination of design and print ordering, especially as it relates to social justice efforts in specific states
